A Rebel is someone who does not obey the rules. Dolores Huerta was and is a rebel. She does not obey the standards that people set for Mexican people, farm workers, and women. Dolores Huerta being a woman in the 1960’s where there were standards set for women, being peaceful, stay at home wives and women that must obey men, she broke every one of those standards. She left her husband, she did not let being a woman define who she was. Instead she took it upon herself and became an activist for what she believed was right, regardless of what others believed or the standards at the time. The farm workers were not only males, Dolores Huerta stepped in and advocated for the female workers, how they needed the same rights as mad and decent working conditions, like cold water, and private restrooms, not to mention a proper wage. Dolores did not care for the rules that were set, she went out and beyond. Dolores demonstrated that there could be peace while fighting for a change. Dolores was a rebel, she encouraged women to go out and break those rules. Being a rebel takes courage, she was considered a rebel during this time, because she followed her calling and people did not like that, because she was a woman and her place was at home with her kids and husband, that did not stop her, instead she continued to become stronger and smarter, assuring women that if she can do it they can do it too. Sometimes all it takes is for one rebel to make a decision that will change the world, in this case the rebel that made a difference in both the Chicano community and the women community is Dolores Huerta. She does not settle, she does not get manipulated, rules, she does not obey them, especially when they are harmful.
