In the novel Motorcycle Ride on the Sea of Tranquility Yoli discovers a lot of new feelings. Yoli is very young when she says she is in love, she is fourteen. Although her young age she says she knows what love is and hopes no one will try to convince her otherwise. She falls in love with Francisco, a boy from her grade she has known for a while. She doesn't know it, but Francisco later on confesses his love for her. Love is one of the most important emotions you can feel. I can be very strong and although it is a good feeling sometimes it can really hurt someone. I think that it is important to be able to feel your emotions such as Yoli. She learns from her mistakes and she embraces who she is. She also tries a lot of new things. Since she is young she gets influenced and when she falls in love she tries to change her appearance in order to make Francisco notice her. I think that a lot of people do the same thing in order to make the people we love notice us but I think she will soon learn how to be herself for the people she loves because if they truly love her they wouldn't want her to change.
Taylor Swift's song "Love" talks about being in love with someone. Although the song mostly talks about what it is to fall in love and get married I feel like it still connects to Yoli. Yoli finally finds someone she loves and she even says that it doesn't matter that she is still young she still thinks she has fallen in love. We can see how early on she started to change her appearance and ask for advice in order to catch Francisco's attention. She understands she is young and doesn't care she still knows what she is feeling and is happy that Francisco feel the same way that she does. She is exploring her feelings and is opening up more which I believe is important for a girl her age.
"Lover" - Taylor Swift | Lover - Yoli Sahagun |
"And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear, Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years" | " I was about to meet up with Francisco Valdivia, my love and life; it was only fitting that the desert winds would appropriately sweep the scene and heighten the melodrama of my first meeting with my true love" |
"All's well that ends well to end up with you, Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover" | "No one could tell me this wasn't love, no one could mock my hopeful fourteen year old heart." |
"ladies and gentlemen will you please stand with every guitar string scar on my hand, I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover, my hearts been borrowed and yours has been blue" | "And there it was the object of my desire standing before me and in some way proclaiming his love for me" |
" And I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you, I've loved you three summers now, honey, but I want'em all" |
"I could tell you that his eyes were black and so was his hair. I could tell that he stood about a head taller than me, had an easiness to his stride- not quite pachuco, tough-guy stride, but sexy enough to make me weak-kneed. |
