I used to like reading when I was younger, but as I’ve aged, I’ve started to dislike it and become picky with what I read. It has got to be a really good book for me to read it. I currently work and I do have time to read, but honestly, I’d rather be working out or watching some Netflix or Youtube with my brothers. I don’t have a problem with reading at all, I just don’t have as much attention on it as I should, because I know books will bring me greater knowledge than my phone or any online website.
The Book Out of My Past is “1984” by George Orwell which was written in 1948, the last 2 digits on the years were purposely switched around, because this is how Orwell depicted the future to be. I read this book during my senior year in High School in Mr. Phillips’ class. The book’s protagonist is Winston Smith and it shows his life in this dystopian world of his which is in constant war. This party leader/group known as “Big Brother” controls everyone’s lives and constantly brainwashes everyone by rewriting history and even their own language. I will always remember this book, because the point of it is to show that slowly, our government will be gaining more and more power and we cannot let that happen. I don’t think I have a favorite part, but one thing that I do like during the whole book is that Winston Smith feels as if he is the only one that knows that the government is in the wrong-doing and that everyone else thinks that this is how life is supposed to be, with way less freedom. I really recommend this book, coming from someone that is picky and doesn’t read as often, trust me. This book has so much detail in it, it frightens you for the future.
